New Haven Water Study
Archer was retained by the City of New Haven to evaluate the city's existing water distribution and supply system, evaluate the city's existing needs, estimate the future demands on the system, and identify the facilities and improvements needed to meet the present and future demands.
The City of New Haven's existing water supply and distribution systems were installed during the 1920's and 1940's. The system was upgraded and expanded as it was required to accommodate growth and repair operations. However, proposed development of the commercial and residential sites in and around the city will place additional demands on its existing supply and distribution systems.
The existing water distribution system consists of two separate wells, two individual water storage tanks and a water distribution system. High pressure areas along the river are regulated through the use of pressure regulator valves.
Management of the water distribution system is the responsibility of the city administrator. A superintendent of the water and wastewater takes care of daily operation and maintenance of the system.
A report was compiled by Archer to include the evaluation of the existing water supply and distribution facilities within the city limits, provide projections of future water supply requirements for domestic, commercial and industrial areas, identify supply and distribution infrastructure improvements necessary to meet existing and future needs, estimate of the cost of the needed improvements and consideration of scheduling and implementation of the needed improvements.
